9/11

I hate this day. It's really hard to go about life as usual with that giant hole in the middle of lower Manhattan. (Okay, I guess technically there's a Freedom Tower there now.) Even though I no longer live on the East Coast, I am still so acutely aware of that horrible morning. Out here, several states away, people just don't seem as immediately connected to what happened, which feels kind of lonely. I was 10 at the time, and six kids in my class lost parents that day. I was lucky.

Anyways. I guess it's a day to count my blessings.

  1. Really, living farther out west the feeling is different? I'm not sure. I know it's very different for being in the immediate New York/New Jersey area, but I would still think it's a day of remembrance and pride in our country no matter where you are. I'm sorry if today brings up bad memories for you personally. I just try to take it in gratitude.

    1. Hey PrettyLies—I didn't in any way mean to "claim" the tragedy for myself in some way that the entire country isn't entitled to do, I hope it didn't come across that way. I was just feeling introspective and sad this morning, and it really was a huge transition being so close and then so far from where it actually happened. NYC was and still is very very traumatized. I also try to see things from a perspective of gratitude now, and it helps to remember that many people throughout the US are too. Thanks—K

  2. I'm sorry this day leaves you feeling pain and loneliness. I'm sure it is even more difficult and earth-shattering having been so geographically close and also having friends who lost parents. Nonetheless, I'm glad we can use this day across the country for remembering, counting blessings, and honoring those who lost their lives. Take care, you!
